Weekly Photo – Worlds Best Ice Cream

Posted in: Our Travels

Earlier this week, we blogged about Cows Ice Cream – they make Canada’s best ice cream – hands down. No one is disputing this fact (except the competition, of course – sorry guys).

Cows Ice Cream had a pretty neat sign in their window. We had lots of time to read it – the line was so long…. They even had 4 people serving and they still couldn’t keep up – and it was a weekday.

The sign reads: World Best Ice Cream

Tauck World Discovery, a company that offers tours in 63 countries, asked its staff around the world for the inside scoop on the best places to eat ice cream. Its Top 10 list:

  1. COWS (Prince Edward Island)
  2. Gelateria Perche No! (Florence Italy)
  3. Tip Top Ice Cream (New Zealand)
  4. Kula Lodge (Maui, Hawaii)
  5. Freddo (Buenos Aires, Argentina)
  6. Gelateria di Piazza (San Gimignano, Italy)
  7. Hot Licks Homemade Ice Cream (Fairbanks, Alaska)
  8. Glacier Berthillion (Ile de St. Louis, Paris)
  9. Las Iguanas (Boca de Arenal, Costa Rica)
  10. Ben & Jerry’s (Waterbury, Vermont)

Just a quick update on Tutto Freddo’s at Mall Del Rio, their service is not good. Without going into detail they’ve raised their prices and decreased their portion sizes.

I’ll try to get more info on a local ice cream shop in Cuenca. All hand made by a man originally from Toronto. What he blends with the ice cream is what makes it special. I’ll try to get more info soon.

Thanks Jim – would love to try it out. Let me know when you find it.

It’s at the “Plaza SanBlas” and that’s between Mariscal Sucre and Simon Bolivar down at Tomas Ordoñez (two blocks before AV. Huayna Capac).

Apparently he does all kinds of blends. Beer ice cream…go figure. But that’s just one of many.

Thanks for sharing this Jim – I’m going to check him out for sure. Maybe we can get a new addition to the list for next year?
