    I’d add Podocarpus National Park from two different entrances: between Loja and Vilcabamba and the Zamora side, both very different from each other. One is high pre-montane forest with all sorts of strange plants and the Zamora is Amazon rain-forest with rushing river, bromeliads, orchids, and such.

    Nice hiking in both. Google maps says its abour 260km from Cuenca and maybe 4 hour drive which is a bit much for a day trip but a great intro to the Andes/Amazon interface. Here’s a Flickr “Collection”:

    I tried to find the rates for the hotel Zhirogallo Gran Hotel, in Chordeleg, but did not succeed can you give me an idea of the coast for two for one night.

    beautiful pictures folks, . i was attracted to El Cajas National Park. I thought about the big trout in that beautiful stream. Wow!
