34 Guayaquil Photos That Will Make You Book Your Trip to Ecuador

Are you landing in Guayaquil as a stopover on your way to the Galapagos or the Amazon? While in the city you might want to do a little sightseeing.

You may even want to book an extra day, before moving on to see the rest of the country. The weather in Guayaquil is significantly different from the Andes and Amazon regions.

To get started, here’s a video slideshow with all of the images.

To begin, here are a couple of photos of the Guayaquil Airport. It’s an attractive airport with gardens and fish ponds in the front.

You may have heard that Guayaquil is not the safest city to visit – and that’s true. Crime can be a problem. But some areas are pretty safe for tourists and those areas are highlighted in this post.

We recommend hiring a well-reviewed travel company to take you to the following locations. Or at least asking at your hotel for a trusted taxi you can hire for the day.

Photos of Malecon 2000, Guayaquil

Let’s begin with photos of the Malecon 2000.

This boardwalk overlooks the Guayas River and is a very pleasant place to spend an afternoon. Among other things there are restaurants, an IMAX theater, a Museum of Anthropology, and large gardens to explore.

From the Malecon you can see the popular Santa Ana hill with its lighthouse and many colorful houses.

Photos of Iguana Park in Guayaquil Ecuador

Now we’ll see some photos of Iguana Park.

This park is actually called Parque Seminario and is a very popular tourist attraction. Its nickname is very fitting because there are iguanas everywhere. It’s definitely worth a visit, I’m glad we went!

Now let’s see some photos of the main attraction at Iguana park, the iguanas. They can be difficult to see up in the trees because they blend so well.

They’re easy to see in this next photo, they are not near the leaves, and there are only two of them.

In this next photo, things get a little tricker. They are higher up and doing a better job of blending in. How many can you spot?

Here’s a little help. I found at least 11!

OK, now that we’ve played a little game of “spot the iguanas” let’s get back to the eye candy.

The following photos are of the area we stayed in, it’s near Mall del Sol. There are hotels on one side of the highway with a covered bridge connecting to the mall.

Thank you for sharing photos of Guayaquil! It really showcases the beauty of the city! I was an exchange student in Guayaquil and lived there for about 4-5 months. Even though Guayaquil seems to get a lot of hate, I love this city and miss it a lot (perhaps it's because I love cities? haha). It's very close to the beaches and it was really easy to travel to other cities in Ecuador from here. I recently visited Guayaquil, and I loved being back. I really love the food there ( I prefer food from the coast more), the people, and the city. I'm planning another trip to Guayaquil really soon. :)

We love Guayaquil and fly into the city every trip there. It's also the closest big city to us where we will be living when we move to Pallatanga. It's where we go to get all of our groceries that we can't get at the market. Lots of improvements in just the past 5 years we have been traveling there.

Thanks Dave! Personally, I wouldn't choose to live in Guayaquil. There are safer cities in Ecuador, you may want to consider a smaller city to move to. But it's a great city to visit.
